Aquarium Pumps
There are two different kinds of aquarium pumps for your tank that accomplish different purposes. They are air and water models. Though they work with different mediums, these products both aim at the same thing, which is to get the water in your tank circulating. If the water isn’t circulating, pumps aren’t getting water to clean and the fish won’t be able to breathe any oxygen. In other words, the word stagnates and just gets plain foul.
Water models are intended to circulate a large amount of water and are good for very large tanks that require this amount of force. For smaller tanks, power heads create a current within a tank with out having to pump as much water. Confer with a professional on what would work best for your sized tank.
Air models pump air through your tank. These are used to aerate the water and to help circulation. Additionally, they are also used to power many different devices used in some tanks such as under gravel filters. They can be used to power ornaments such as the classic opening and closing clam, and they simply make your tank look so much more alive with constant activity and motion.
Consider carefully the size of your tank to make sure you are getting the right sized equipment. With an air model, you may want to go a little more powerful than you need in case you add extra accessories like other ornaments down the road. With a water model, you’ll want the right size for your tank to keep the proper environment for your fish.
